Paying homage to arguably the greatest swordsman to ever live, Miyamoto Musashi.

Musashi was a Japanese swordsman, philosopher, strategist, writer and rōnin who became renowned through stories of his unique double-bladed swordsmanship and undefeated record in his 61 duels. He is considered a Kensei, a sword-saint of Japan.

The characters featured on the inner skirt, 鍛錬 literally translates "to physical exercise, to workout, to temper or forge, to toughen."

These characters are inspired by one of Musashi's quotes from his text The Book of Five Rings, “One thousand days to forge the spirit, ten thousand days to polish it.” 

One becomes a beginner after one thousand days of training and an expert after ten thousand days of practice.
