A solid fourteen carat gold pen with amber body and vitreous enamel detailing. This is a spectacular and perhaps unique fountain pen. The grip is constructed from a solid piece of fourteen carat gold that is ribbed vertically in order for a comfortable purchase to be obtained whilst writing. Each end of the grip is beautifully detailed with a powder blue enamel, Art Deco, chevron style design. The majority of the pen is made up of a magnificent translucent amber. When the light passes through it, the body is exceptional to see, with a variety of natural inclusions running through it. There are two solid gold initials pegged into the amber, spelling 'GE'. The nib is a classic writing nib, that can easily be replaced with a variety of different widths or styles, depending on the purpose of the pen. The pen is obviously not a 'cartridge' style pen. It is a 'dipping' ink pen, and will require an ink well, or simply a bottle of ink. The piece is signed 'Cartier' on the underside of the base of the grip, along with '14k' and the Cartier unique reference number stamp. The pen is in perfect condition through out, and is wonderful in the hand. A finer ink pen is hard to find. The piece dates circa 1920, and is likely to have been made for the American market, hence the use of fourteen carat gold.
