The NEW Monty Roberts Advanced Course of Study offered by the Monty Roberts International Learning Center (MRILC) is a comprehensive program meticulously designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge necessary for effective horse training and management. This course encompasses a total of 10 modules, each targeting specific aspects of equine education and behavior, culminating in a minimum of 40 days of intensive training. Students can choose from various modules, tailoring their learning experience to meet their personal interests and professional goals.

The Advanced Course offers students the opportunity to extend their knowledge to training both un-started and untouched horses. This course is the next step on the pathway towards becoming a Certified Instructor and to attend the Advanced Course you must be a graduate of the Intermediate Course.

Course Structure

The course includes 10 modules and covers a diverse range of topics:

1. Train the Trainer (5 days) - This module focuses on developing the skills needed to teach others, ensuring that the principles of Monty Roberts’ methods are effectively communicated and understood. 
   
2. Gentling Wild Horses (5 days) - Students learn techniques for safely gentling wild horses, fostering trust and cooperation between horse and handler.
   
3. Starting a Green Horse (7 days) - This module provides insights into the initial training of young horses, preparing them for future riding and handling. 
   
4. Prepare a Starter for Riding (5 days) - Students are taught methods to prepare horses for their first rides, emphasizing safety and comfort for both horse and rider.
   
5. Foal Handling (5 days) - Techniques for handling foals are covered, focusing on early training and socialization to ensure a well-adjusted young horse.
   
6. Advanced Problem Solving (4 days) - This module addresses common issues that arise during training, providing strategies to resolve behavioral problems effectively. 
   
7. Training Off Pressure (3 days) - Students learn to teach horses to respond to cues without the use of physical pressure, promoting a more gentle approach to training.
   
8. Teaching & Coaching (3 days) - This module emphasizes the importance of coaching skills, enabling students to guide others in their learning journeys.
   
9. Stable Management (2 days) - Students gain insights into effective stable management practices, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for horses.
   
10. Marketing/Business Development (2 days) - This final module focuses on the business side of horse training, equipping students with the skills needed to promote their services and grow their professional presence.
    

The Advanced Exam

To successfully qualify for the final exam, participants must accumulate a minimum of 800 credits from these modules, with a total of 1000 credits available. This structure ensures that students not only complete the required coursework but also engage deeply with the material, enhancing their understanding and practical application of Monty Roberts' internationally recognized non-violent training methods. When ready, you may return for an intense two weeks of written and practical exams, at the successful completion of which you will graduate from the Advanced Course.
